1 Our survey focused on professionals and mangers and not entry-level employees. These professionals and managers were between the ages of 18-64 and were salaried employees who quit or volunteered for a layoff within the past 5 years.

Professionals and managers who identified themselves as GLBT and a person of color should only be counted once. In our survey when a participant identified in both groups, they were counted only once under GLBT.

2 The following represents the rate at which different groups leave due solely to unfairness:

People of color - 9.5%
GLBT - 5.6%
Caucasian, heterosexual women - 4.6%
Caucasian, heterosexual men - 3.0%

According to the most conservative estimates, the cost of turnover is 1.5 times the annual salary of the departing employee.
